Amethyst Koh recently graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, validated by the University of the Arts London (UAL). Amethyst gravitates towards drawing and painting, but is not limited to it. Her recent practice explores photography and installation work. Her works usually stem from a mix of personal experiences and writings as she explores and unpacks a coalescence of topics surrounding womanhood, internet pop culture, and everything in between.

As a chronically online girl, Amethyst spends much of her time consuming media and thinking about media consumption. She is a Singapore-based girlthinkerwriterartist who is in the midst of exploring and discovering what it means to be a girl in the internet age. What it means to construct an identity in the online sphere. She finds herself concerned with the pervasive (self) surveillance and (self) commodification that happens on the internet, particularly in relation to womanhood.

Amethyst’s works have been exhibited in The Morgue in the Chelsea College of the Arts (2023), and The Lim Hak Tai gallery (2024). She was awarded the Chip Eng Seng Bursary award (2020), the NAFA Dean’s List award (2020), and the Goh Teng Lin Bursary award (2023). She has also worked at the National Arts Council as a Visual Arts intern (2021).
